OPEN GARDENS THIS WEEKEND
Fern Bank
692 Boyup Brook Rd, Donnybrook, Open 10am – 4.30pm, Cost: $6
Beautiful farm garden with a lovely balance between restful shade and open areas for over 200 roses and other sun-loving plants. Mature trees line the driveway and climbing and floribunda roses cover the entrance. Ferns intermingle with conifers, azaleas and rhododendrons. Crafts, plants, wine tasting, sausage sizzle, produce and preserves will all be available.
198 Hetherington Rd, Argyle, Open 10am – 4.30pm, Cost: $6
This is a wonderfully diverse 5 acre country garden with generously planted gardens. Lawn paths define the terraced rose gardens and an inviting lattice walk leads to hidden ponds protected by a graceful weeping willow. Deciduous trees provide shaded areas for massed azaleas. Handmade quilts and crafts as well as teas and lunch will be available.
22 Woods Rd, Gelorup, Open 10am – 4.30pm, Cost: $6
This is an expansive and well designed 1 acre garden behind an entrance of natural bushland. Original water features and sculptures with a distinctively Australian theme take precedence. Traditional elements include a wisteria and ‘Whisky’ rose walk, native plantings, beds of roses and productive vegetable gardens. A children’s treasure hunt will be held throughout both days and craft and woodwork will be on sale. Teas and lunches are available.
NB. These gardens would make a lovely day trip around Ferguson Valley just south east of Bunbury.
