Castle Grounds rose garden to be crowning glory for the Jubilee
TAMWORTH is to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a blooming marvellous rose garden.
The borough council wants to create the garden in the Castle Grounds in her honour.

The garden will be in the shape of a crown and feature walkways with seating in the centre and 200 red rose bushes.
“The Diamond Jubilee is a historic occasion and here in Tamworth we want to create something which will be a permanent memorial and which will be open to the whole community,” explained Councillor John Garner cabinet member for the environment at the council.
“The rose garden is the perfect tribute to the dedication our Queen has given to her country and her people.
“I believe that this tribute will be welcomed by the people of Tamworth as they join in the celebrations of the special event.”
Work will start on the new garden, next to the bowling green in the Castle Grounds, this month.
The 200 Heart of England rose bushes will be planted in March for them to be in full bloom in time for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations at the start of June.
A major sponsor is now being sought for the rose garden.
“It will be a unique opportunity for a business in Tamworth to lend their financial support to a high-profile project which will be a lasting memorial for future generations,” said a spokesman for the council.
Businesses interested in sponsoring the rose garden are asked to telephone Tamworth Borough Council’s environmental management department staff on 01827 709445.
They can also write to environmentalmanagement@tamworth.gov.uk.
